After working so hard for the past 4 years on personal art projects & original characters, I feel I need to stand back from that for a while and make some fan art!
I have always struggled to fit into the art community and individual fandoms because I have trouble talking to people, so maybe creating fan art can connect me to people in the community! I have lots of ideas for illustrations, comics, short & long animations, and character work. I already know that most of them will not come to fruition, but I am hopeful that my own drive to create & any community support I get will help me make it happen!
I have... a lot going on in my life right now and I have been working my tail off to make any kind of money, but when I get to sit down in the evening to draw, everything feels alright. I am dedicated, so let's make this happen!

If you're looking for a boost in fan count, at least, then fan art really seems like the way to go. :) It's cool you actually seem to see it as a fun thing too. I know a lot of artists just don't feel they get enough traction with original work, so they reluctantly move over to that category... if you have fun with it: sounds perfect!

Yeah! I've just been making personal content for so long, I want to try some different stuff every now and then-- not just to get fans. It's fun! NG seems like it has a lot of original content as well as fan content, and that's something I can appreciate :D
